What’s Actually Making Your Home Feel Cluttered

You declutter. You vacuum. You tidy.

But your room still feels a little… off.

This week, let’s talk about visual clutter—and how to style your space so it actually feels calm, even when life isn’t.

Quick Test: Can You Spot the Visual Clutter?

Take 30 seconds. Stand in your entryway, your living room, or even your kitchen. Ask yourself:

  • 🔄 What's fighting for the spotlight? Look for clashing shapes, bold colors, or uneven heights.
  • 🕯️ Do your candles and vases feel like a team—or a garage sale? Match tones, materials, or shapes to pull it together.
  • 🎨 Does your color scheme tell a story—or shout over itself? Stick to 2–3 tones and repeat them in small, thoughtful ways.

The truth is, even pretty things can create visual noise. But don’t worry—there are easy fixes.

3 Styling Shifts to Try This Weekend::

1. Tone Down the “Object Parade”

The more stuff you layer across every surface, the less anything stands out—especially the pieces you love.

→ Try clustering 2–3 items on one end of a console, and leave the other side open. It helps your favorite piece shine instead of getting lost in the crowd.

2. Rethink the “Loner” Items

You know the ones—that hot pink pillow from three apartments ago, the shiny cobalt vase that screams “souvenir shop”, or the quirky wall art that doesn’t match anything else.

Group them with pieces in a similar tone, texture, or material so they feel like part of a story—or stash them for now. One wild-card item can throw off the whole vibe like a record scratch in a quiet room.

3. Add Breathing Room

Visual clutter builds up when everything’s fighting for attention.

Step back and look at your shelves, tables, and wall art. Where can you simplify? Give things space to stand on their own. Less overlap = more calm.

Hue of the Week: EGRET WHITE

Sherwin Williams 7570 | HEX#DFD9CF

The dreamiest greige. Soft, light, and perfect when you want to calm down the room without going stark white.

What's In, What's Out

IN – Minimal styling around a favorite piece you actually want to highlight
OUT – Filling space just to fill it—especially when it overpowers the good stuff

Mini Makeover

Do a quick shelf sweep—clear everything off, then restyle with just 2–3 pieces in a shared tone or finish. That’s it. No extras. No filler.

It’s amazing how much calmer the whole space feels when your eyes have room to rest.

Bonus: You can do this to any surface that’s bugging you—entry tables, nightstands, countertops... go for it.

Life Lately

The boys finally talked me into a new water trampoline—and honestly? Worth. Every. Penny.

We had one when they were younger, and it was probably the most-used thing we’ve ever bought them. This time, they used summer job money to pitch in… and now they’re obsessed.

In the pool. Into the pool. On the grass. At the lake. ALL the time.

Here’s the one we bought if your crew would love one too.

Try one of the styling shifts this weekend, and let me know how it goes—I’d love to see your version of a calmer, less cluttered space.💙

Wendy
